Solar Anti-Reverse Blocking Diode — 70A to 300A, 1600V

High-current blocking diodes for PV and battery work — the cheap part that stops current going the wrong way and quietly saves an expensive one.

What it's for

• Anti-reverse protection on PV strings — stops a shaded or failed string being back-fed by its parallel neighbours
• Battery reverse-polarity protection — cheap insurance on a connection that gets made in a dark loft
• Paralleling sources that must not feed each other

Choosing a rating

Rated 70A to 300A at 1600V. Size it well above your worst-case current, not your nominal — these run hot under load and derate significantly with temperature.

Notes

• They need a heatsink. At anything near rated current these get seriously hot. Mount to a proper heatsink with thermal compound, not to a bit of aluminium and hope.
• There is a forward voltage drop, so a small permanent power loss — worth it where it prevents a fault, not worth adding everywhere for the sake of it.
• Module (MD) package, easy to mount.
